2D Animation

Out of all the forms of animation, frame-by-frame 2D is my favorite to do. Yes, it’s time consuming. Yes, its a LOT of moving parts. But it’s still my favorite. I feel like I have the most control with frame-by-frame. Its so easy to squash and stretch. To breath life into a character. All it takes is a lot of dedication to your character designs, and a lot of time.

For my birthday last year, in the chilly air of October, I had some introspection. And I wanted to animate it a little. I think it’s important to look back on life and to the future, but it can be crushing sometimes. So sometimes its ok to just let go. Do what you can, but don’t drown in the uncertainty. Sometimes, you just need to let it be.

My junior film Can We Keep It was a character designer wonderland. My thought process for creature creation mainly consisted of: “what’s stupid, funny, and doable?”

I took some inspiration from The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, because the art style is so fun, silly, and whimsical. I think after making this film, more and more of my art was subconsciously inspired by this style.
